An Honest Engineering Story

Soundora began as a freelance project with a clear goal: build a modern music platform where users could organize, discover, and enjoy music through an intuitive interface. The project moved through planning, design, and initial backend implementation — establishing authentication, database models, and core application structure.

During development, the client's vision evolved. The original plan to build with Django and Django REST Framework shifted toward React Native for cross-platform mobile delivery. At that stage, my experience with React Native was still developing, and I recognized that continuing would risk delivering work below the professional standards I hold myself to.

Development was paused — not as a failure, but as a responsible engineering decision. Choosing to be honest about technical readiness is, in itself, an act of professionalism.

What I Would Do Differently Today

Since Soundora, I've continued expanding my skills across backend engineering, system design, cloud technologies, and modern application development. Today, I approach projects with greater emphasis on planning, scalability, and selecting technologies that align with project goals from the very beginning.

I now understand that the discovery phase — where technology choices are evaluated against requirements, team capabilities, and long-term vision — is one of the most critical stages of any project. Had I been more experienced at the time, I would have facilitated deeper discussions about the technology direction earlier in the process, potentially aligning expectations before development began.

This experience didn't discourage me — it sharpened my judgment. It reinforced that great software engineering isn't just about writing code. It's about communication, planning, adaptability, and the integrity to make difficult decisions when they serve the best interests of the project and the client.

Although Soundora was never completed, it remains an important milestone in my journey as a software engineer. This experience encouraged me to keep learning and ultimately strengthened the way I approach software engineering today. It reinforced that honesty, integrity, and a commitment to quality matter more than simply shipping code. Every project — whether completed or paused — contributes to the engineer you become.

I continue to grow, to learn, and to build — carrying forward the lessons that Soundora taught me about what it truly means to be a professional software engineer.
